A tailor-made dress for the Miss Poitou election
“It all started a bit by chance for me, she says. While I was a BTS international business student at the Victor-Hugo high school in Poitiers, I did a little modeling and fashion shows, particularly for wedding fairs. I was also elected, at the end of 91, 4e runner-up in the Miss France 1992 competition from another committee (1). » A first experience in the world of Misses that the pretty brunette, 1m76 tall, cannot imagine repeating. “But a few months later, traders, the Antica club association and the Châtellerault Lions club told me that they were looking for candidates for the title of Miss Poitou, the election of which took place on April 4, 1992 at the Chillou hall in Châtellerault. I was selected to participate and elected immediately. I was 23 years old, I didn't expect it at all and therefore wasn't particularly stressed. Probably this relaxation worked in my favor. »
In April 1992, Véronique Goubault Roger was elected Miss Poitou in Châtellerault in a velvet lamé dress custom-made for her by a Châtelleraudais sewing workshop.

Everything accelerated in December of the same year with her participation in Miss France 1993. “With the 42 other regional candidates, we find ourselves in Paris, staying in a Sofitel for two weeks of preparation before the election which is to take place on December 27. » The show, broadcast on France 3 live from the CNIT La Défense and presented by Julien Lepers includes the traditional passages of the Misses in regional costumes, in swimsuits and in evening dresses as well as various paintings on the theme of American films. “We rehearsed the choreographies for four to six hours a day. Many girls could not dance or even walk in heels. The pace was very brisk. It was sometimes very hard and exhausting, especially as we alternated with visits, like at Euro Disney, always escorted by the police and under the chaperoning of Madame de Fontenay. » Véronique has fond memories of the lady in the hat. “She was very attentive, she spoiled us and had a very family side, but with great demands and great rigor. It was imperative to be on time, always presentable, smoking was prohibited and the choreography had to be impeccable. »

Not selected in the twelve finalists
On election day, Véronique is ill. “I had a bit of a fever and I was tired. A doctor came and gave me a lot of medicine. » The young woman still puts on the show but is not one of the 12 finalists chosen to compete for the title of Miss France. “It seems that I should have been part of it, but that I was seen talking a few days before with a young man, which did not seem appropriate. There were things that felt a little directed. In the end, I was a little stressed and disappointed, but everything went very quickly. We are carried away by the show, it’s impressive. We guess there are people there but without seeing anyone. »

This December 27, 1992, it is another Véronique, de la Cruz, Miss Guadeloupe, who will be elected Miss France. The next day, the young Poitevine returned to her land. “With a little notoriety. I resumed my modeling activity and was even selected to be the face of an advertisement on road safety produced by the City of Poitiers. Everything gradually stopped when I started working. » Véronique will have a career at EDF and will have two sons after getting married in 1999. From this adventure in the world of Misses, she keeps in touch with Xavier de Fontenay and lovely memories. “It’s a unique experience but it’s only afterwards that you realize it.
