Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) announced on Friday that it had neutralized a terrorist cell which was preparing an attack against a police station in the capital.
“The Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation has stopped in Moscow the activities of a cell of the international terrorist organization Islamic State in Khorasan, whose members, originally from Central Asia, were planning to commit a terrorist act against the one of the metropolitan police departments”, indicated the public relations center of the FSB, in a press release.
The suspects attracted the attention of authorities because they were collecting information on a department of the Russian Interior Ministry in Moscow, chosen as the target of a terrorist attack, according to the same source.

“After pledging allegiance to the Islamic State, they purchased a vehicle and placed propane gas cylinders in it, after which they began making an improvised explosive device”, we read in the press release.
During their arrest, the suspects put up armed resistance to Russian FSB officers and were then neutralized by return fire, it continues.
Following the incident, the FSB investigative unit for Moscow and its region opened a criminal case for preparing a terrorist attack and participating in the activities of a terrorist organization.
« During the investigation, firearms, ammunition and components of an improvised explosive device were found and seized at the radicals’ place of residence”, concludes the press release.
