An area under high surveillance. After the detection of a case of avian flu in La Poterie-Mathieu, the prefect of Eure established a protection zone, within a radius of three kilometers around the outbreak.

Eight municipalities are affected by this protection zone: La Poterie-Mathieu, Epaignes, Lieuray, La Noë-Poulain, Saint-Etienne-L’Allier, Saint-Georges-du-Vièvre, Saint-Siméon and Selles.

In addition to these cities, a surveillance zone has been declared, this time within a radius of ten kilometers. Around thirty municipalities are concerned.

In these areas, many restrictions have been put in place. Poultry and captive birds must remain locked up. Any symptoms observed or death of an animal must be immediately reported to the authorities. Means of disinfection at the entrance to buildings must be put in place.

Please note, the transport and movement of captive birds is prohibited, to and from protection and surveillance zones. The removal of eggs for consumption from farms is not authorized.

Another point, gatherings of birds and poultry at fairs, markets and flea markets are prohibited, as is the sale of live poultry.

Finally, hunting waterfowl, game birds and the release of game birds are strictly prohibited.

According to our information, the slaughter of contaminated animals began today. Contacted by France 3 Normandie, the mayor of La Poterie-Mathieu, where the virus was detected, reacts: “I know the breeder is devastated… They are slaughtering his entire breeding stock.

The authorities are calling for maximum caution, especially as the level of vigilance has been high throughout the metropolitan territory since the beginning of November, the highest alert level.
