If you were hoping for a launch of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 16 Go at a reasonable price, the latest rumors from the corridors unfortunately do not point in this direction and it is not the leak that we are going to talk about today that will reassure you. So obviously there remains the possibility that all this is being cheated, but if this is not the case things could be even worse than the most pessimistic forecasts…
We head to the YouTube channel of Vex, an American who allegedly had a discussion on his Discord channel with a manager of a computer store located in Australia, and who, as you might expect, prefers to remain anonymous. The latter in any case sent the content creator an order list concerning a reference which will speak to us: the ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 16 Go GDDR7 Prime OC. First information, but which is not surprising in itself: ASUS would therefore intend to extend its range of “Prime” graphics cards with the new generation, while it was currently limited to only a few references from RTX 40 and not highlighted on the firm's official website…
But what will interest us most is that the Australian reseller in question provides pricing information both on the price he pays to buy the graphics card from his supplier, and the recommended resale price including tax (MSRP) in Australia.
The recommended resale price would therefore be A$2799. We are told that this is an inclusive price, with VAT in Australia set at 10%. We would therefore be at a price excluding taxes of $2,545 Australian for this ASUS GeForce RTX 5080 Prime OC. A little converter later, this would make the card 1583 $ us.
If the ASUS “Prime” model will undoubtedly be entry-level for this brand, the manufacturer has rather accustomed us to high prices even on its least expensive models, so we could for example hope for a $1499 price. side of NVIDIA for its official price if we give credit to this leak. After conversion into euros and application of French VAT at 20%, we would be at €1820 including tax for the ASUS Prime, and a hypothetical €1724 including tax as the official recommended price by NVIDIA, therefore based on the possible $1499. With a little more optimism, why not go as far as the idea of an official price of $1449, but that would still still be €1667 including tax for us.
Are you ready for such prices? If this is not the case, all you have to do is hope that today's leak is just a hoax, and watch the rest and especially the official announcements carefully. Some will find that this is undoubtedly the logical price to expect from a card which should display performance of the order of the RTX 4090 (or even a little better according to some recent rumors) and while inflation takes its toll, but others will almost choke up when recalling that this is a card with “only” 16 GB of VRAM and that in their eyes this price is indecent for this quantity of on-board memory. The wait won't be very long now to find out everything!
We'll leave you with Vex's full video to finish, so you can make up your own mind about how much credit should be given to all of this:
