There are the forgotten paintings on the fireplace, grandma's old piece of furniture that sits in the garage or even the jewelry and gold coins that are passed down from generation to generation. They all have a story, but what value do they have? While the price of the yellow metal has multiplied by 5 to 10 in recent years, estimates are increasingly interesting.
To help Altiligerians see things more clearly, the Rossini auction house is organizing a day of free valuations this Thursday.
Confidential advice
Romain Verlomme-Fried, auctioneer, and Charles Bisi, expert in jewelry and collector's items, will give owners the keys to valuing their objects. “In the morning, we will walk around Puy-en-Velay to see people who cannot get around or for whom the objects to be assessed are too cumbersome. During the afternoon, we will receive them by appointment at the Ibis hotel. » An appointment is necessary to maintain a certain confidentiality.
A box hidden in a barn
A day when the auctioneer sees a lot of people parading with all kinds of objects always holds “nice surprises,” he comments. This morning, there was a lady who made an appointment because, while emptying her mother's house, she found a box hidden in the barn which contained coins and jewelry. It will be interesting to estimate them.”
Romain Verlomme-Fried no longer counts anecdotes like this. “I remember a man who was doing work on a house. When he cut a beam, about sixty gold coins fell on his head. There are also paintings recovered from an inheritance whose painter is unknown to the owner but which have great interest on the art market. But this can also be the case for bronzes, furniture… Or other decorative objects. »
Expertise, solutions
Objects are often found after the death of a loved one or acquired through inheritance. “But we don’t necessarily know their value. This is why we really invite people to go through an expert to estimate the property. And then, we advise them on the best solution for them. » This may involve resale at auction if the item has a high value. If the object is more classic, the auctioneer directs towards antique dealers or towards sales to individuals. “It could also be to keep it if it has sentimental value. But at least people can ensure it as best they can or prepare their future inheritance. »
The expertise day will take place on Thursday December 5 in Puy-en-Velay. The morning will take place at home and the afternoon at the Ibis center Saint-Laurent hotel, 1 avenue d'Aiguilhe, by confidential appointment. Contact: Romain Verlomme-Fried, auctioneer on 06 20 14 34 18.
