Rambo, piglet… Since this domestic pig has been roaming freely in the Pont de straw district in Trignac (Loire-Atlantique), everyone has had his little nickname. This Tuesday, December 3, 2024, Jean-Jacques, on a bike ride, stopped to scratch him and give him something to eat. “He’s funny, sometimes he follows me when I cycle. The neighborhood has tamed it,” explains the resident, biscuit in hand, who comes to see the animal every day.
Together they become the mascot
From their gate, Patricia and Jacques see the mammal every day.
The Trignacais remembers this day of June 15, 2024:
I was talking to the postman when I saw him in the tall grass. I thought it was a dog, but when I saw it more clearly, I wondered what it was.
Abandoned, together (a breed of domestic pig native to New Zealand), seems to be enjoying his new environment. “A 2-hour nap in the afternoon and then he goes to the Brière park to have a drink in the Brivet,” explains Patricia to the Echo of the Peninsula. The animal has even made a small shelter for itself in the brambles. “We put straw on him. »
And in the neighborhood, Rambo does not go unnoticed. “Cars stop to look at him. And I'm not talking about the weekend, it's a parade. Everyone comes to give him food.”
“I wish he was safe”
However, the fate of the pig worries local residents.
We are afraid that something will happen to him or that he will cause an accident. Sometimes I do traffic.
To protect him, they alerted the SPA and the town hall.
“The town hall and association services tried to catch him, but it’s not that simple. We don’t want to harm him,” explains, on its Facebook page, the municipality which has found people who can accommodate the kunekune in good conditions.
“Don’t feed him anymore”
To catch the beast, it is impossible to put it to sleep:
We can't put him to sleep with a syringe because these species have heart problems.
“Respect the no-feeding instructions and we will be able to take him to an owner who will care for him properly,” concludes the town hall.
