Every year it welcomes more than 400,000 curious peoplewhich makes it one of the most visited places in the Gard. Far behind the famous Roman aqueduct. But in second place neck and neck with the Arènes de Nîmes.
This is the Seaquarium Marine Institute of Grau-du-Roi. A giant aquarium, but not only that, which brings together more than 200 species of Mediterranean and tropical fish, as well as sharks, seals and sea lions.
The redeveloped octagonal pool
There is still time to visit it this Sunday, January 5, 2025. Because tomorrow, it will close its doors for almost a month. It's his winter break.
A break for the visitors, but not for the teams since the marine mammal caretakers and aquarium technicians will of course continue to watch over the jellyfish, corals, starfish, seals and other rays, ensuring their feeding, their
training and pool maintenance.
Note that during this break, in the Mediterranean area, the octagonal basin will be redeveloped.
Two exhibitions
Among the new features to discover upon reopening, the two exhibitions will still be there:
- “Inestimated Grandeur”, dedicated to small, forgotten pelagics, with images by naturalist photographer Thomas Roger and illustrations by Cyril Girard.
- “Mediterranean 2024 – Circle Adventure”, a story in 20 images of an educational expedition in the Mediterranean, carried out in May 2024, to discover marine and underwater biodiversity. The latter will be presented in a new colorful space, at the entrance to the Seaquarium, with free and open access.
The Seaquarium Institut Marin will reopen its doors on Saturday 1is February 2025.
