According to the latest figures published by Dreal (Regional Directorate for the Environment, Development and Housing), the annual accumulation of building permits and construction starts is as follows: the weakest in recent decades

Between December 2023 and November 2024, 19,900 housing units were authorized for construction in the region (including 7,400 in Loire-Atlantique). This volume is down 19% compared to the previous twelve months. This is the first time since the beginning of the century that it has fallen below the 20,000 housing mark.

Decline in construction starts
From December 2023 to November 2024, 18,000 housing units were also started in Pays de la Loire (including 6,800 in Loire-Atlantique), down 16% compared to the previous twelve months. This volume is similar to that recorded at the end of October which was the lowest since 2000. In France, the drop in construction starts was identical (-16%).
Note that the developments by type of housing were very contrasting. Construction starts of collective housing increased by 6%, while those of pure single-family homes fell by 37%.
