The accident occurred around 5:52 p.m., confirmed Sergeant Éve Brochu-Joubert, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), in an interview with Vingt55. A man was seriously injured after being hit by a female driver who, according to initial reports, was learning to drive, confirmed Sergeant Brochu-Joubert
The accident ironically occurred on the grounds of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec (SAAQ), while a man was offering driving lessons to his wife outside of SAAQ opening hours.
According to information obtained on site by Vingt55, the man who was giving a driving lesson to his partner was seriously injured after she accidentally made a wrong reverse maneuver. While trying to get out of this maneuver, the driver hit the wall of the Société de l’assurance automobile du Québec, and while trying to free herself, she hit and crushed her partner who was giving instructions from outside the vehicle, seriously injuring him.
Dessercom paramedics quickly intervened to take care of the victim who was lying on the ground, confirms a witness. The man, a man in his seventies, was treated and stabilized before being taken to the Sainte-Croix hospital center in Drummondville where the trauma team was waiting for him. Given the seriousness of his injuries, the septuagenarian was transferred to the Trois-Rivières hospital center.
A good Samaritan took care of reassuring the wife, visibly shaken and in shock, who was profuse in her apologies when she saw the paramedics taking care of the septuagenarian.
The police set up a scene and a perimeter to document the incident, which will help confirm the driver’s version of events. The man was assessed by the trauma team. According to the latest assessment, the man, although seriously injured, is out of danger, said Sergeant Brochu-Joubert.
