The bad news fell a few months ago, May-sur-Ornesouth of Caen (Calvados): the multi-activity center project at the football stadium will not be able to see the light of day as it stands.

A ban linked to the Mining Risk Prevention Plan

The project had been in the works for several years: build a single-storey building with a surface area of between 250 and 400 m2 next to the training ground with cloakrooms for the football club, a club house and an multi-activity room which can accommodate judo, gymnastics, the alumni club or serve as a motor skills room for students from the town’s schools. An esteemed project between 800,000 euros and one million euros.

We don’t have the right to destroy and rebuild new sports equipment at the stadium, it’s crazy! It’s the regulations of the Mining Risk Prevention Plan (PPRM) that require it. We can only rebuild identically.

Jean-Luc Mottais, Mayor of May-sur-Orne

Locker rooms and a clubhouse will still be redone

The municipality therefore asked its architect to rework on an identical projectthat is to say, rebuilding football changing rooms and a clubhouse in the existing areas. “We will try to start the work at the end of the year,” he adds. Four to five months of work are estimated.

A sought-after location to install the multi-activity room

However, the mayor is not abandoning his multi-activity room project.

No financial estimate has been mentioned for the moment. Note that a grass pitch has been rebuilt on the training ground for a budget of 37,000 euros excluding tax.

Unusable since 2019, the main field still on stand-by

On the other hand, as regards the football field of honoraffected by significant holes and unusable since 2019, it is always “on standby”said the mayor of the town. “There is no no immediate projectbecause we do not have the technical expertise that provides us with reliable solutions.”

And 10 meter deep hole for a diameter of approximately 30 meters had been discovered during a survey of this land.
