Around 12:30 p.m., this Saturday, November 23, 2024, a car hit a small electrical transformer which was located in front of the wall of the Montanel church (Saint-James, Manche), according to the gendarmerie.
In the vehicle were a father, born in 1978, and his 8-year-old son. Due to the impact, the cause of which is unknown at the moment, the car burst into flames. “The car was completely charred,” describes Nathalie Panassié. The deputy mayor of Saint-James, present at the scene of the accident, further specifies that the two victims are in “a very serious condition”.
According to information collected on site and according to the gendarmerie, the two injured managed to escape from the burning car. The father was unconscious when help arrived. The vital prognoses of the father and his son would be compromised.

The helicopter breaks down
The Samu 35 helicopter was dispatched to the scene to rescue the two injured people, but during the landing attempt, the tail of the aircraft hit a shrub, which damaged the blades of the rear rotor. The aircraft managed to land without incident and its crew was fortunately not injured, but since any re-takeoff was impossible, another helicopter, that of Civil Security, was called.

He took care of the little boy and transported him to the Tours University Hospital (Indre-et-Loire). His father was transported by road to the Caen University Hospital (Calvados).
The damaged helicopter is “repair course”, according to Captain Grzyb, of the Avranches gendarmerie company.
