The joy of Pierre Gasly after an “incredible” third place on the grid

Pierre Gasly created a sensation this Saturday (French time) in Las Vegas, finishing the qualifying session in an impressive third position.

Behind the untouchables George Russell (on pole) and Carlos Sainz (second), Pierre Gasly was ahead of Charles Leclerc by more than a tenth.

The Frenchman also relegated title rivals Max Verstappen and Lando Norris behind him.

“It’s the very first time,” reacted Pierre Gasly while getting out of the car, at the microphone. “It’s amazing, honestly. We didn't think we could reach the top 3 in qualifying. So it was an incredible ride, especially on this circuit.”

“You're flirting with the walls all the way around and there's a lot of adrenaline, a lot of excitement. I knew coming across the line it was a good lap, but when they told me on the radio that we would be third tomorrow, it's just incredible. I’m really happy.”

Gasly : “An incredible time for the team”

Pierre Gasly also admitted that the wait before Q3 following Franco Colapinto's crash had been long.

“I was starting to get cold in the car,” Gasly explained. “We had to wait so long before this Q3. I just wanted to get going and, yes, we had a good first run. The last lap was the one that counted with a new tire, and I did really well. The car was very good. I have to say it’s an incredible time for the team after the double podium in Brazil, so I hope we can stay in the game tomorrow.”

After the enormous amount of points collected in Brazil, Pierre Gasly will try to capitalize on his starting position to defend sixth place in the constructors' championship for his Alpine team.
