According to the first testimonies collected, the little boy and his family were taking part in a wedding which was being held in a village hall a few steps away.
The child reportedly saw his father on the other side of the road and crossed to join him. It was at this point that a vehicle suddenly appeared and mowed him down.
Witnesses in shock
The firefighters, who arrived quickly on the scene, were unable to do anything to save the young victim who was in cardiorespiratory arrest. The emergency services also had to take care of four witnesses to the accident, who were traumatized by the scene. All were taken to Cannes hospital.
The driver taken into custody
The driver, frightened by the crowd that formed immediately after the collision, left the scene when the police arrived. He quickly contacted the police to indicate his position, and waited for them to come and arrest him.
He was taken into custody at the Cannes police station. This man, whose age has not been communicated, is unknown to the police and the courts.
He was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to our information.
