Extension of the Alma-La Baie highway: the final route announced

The final route of the Alma-La Baie highway extension was unveiled last week. Route D was selected from among the four proposed this winter by the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility.

Please note that the announcement only concerns the portion of the route located west of the 6th row, that is, the portion which was the subject of a public consultation. The Ministry affirms that the choice of the route was made “taking into account the analyzes carried out as well as the results of the public consultation carried out in recent months”. For her part, the mayor of Alma, Sylvie Beaumont, is delighted with the Ministry’s decision.

“I am very happy,” she said. “I think they chose the route that is most favorable to traffic flow. It is also the route that joins the Maurice-Paradis bypass, which was built precisely to connect to the highway extension in order to free up Avenue du Pont.”

For his part, the regional president of the Union of Agricultural Producers (UPA), Mario Théberge, affirms that the Ministry has “chosen the route that the UPA had favored”.

However, he prefers to wait until all adjustments to the route are made before commenting further. Indeed, the final route is not entirely definitive. Minor modifications could be made over the coming months depending on how the acquisition phase progresses.

The mayor of Saint-Bruno, François Claveau, did not respond to the interview request from the newspaper Le Lac-St-Jean.

The next step is the submission of the environmental impact study in relation to the chosen route. An investigation by the Office of Public Hearings for the Environment (BAPE) could be opened depending on the conclusions of the study.
