Every year, Cégep de Valleyfield organizes the CégepBD competition, an event that allows students in the college network to express their creativity through comic strips. The 2024 edition was a great success, with more than 75 registrations from 15 CEGEPs across Quebec. Of these registrations, 25 boards were submitted to the jury, including that of Mélissa Groleau-Perez, a student at Cégep de Lanaudière in Terrebonne.

Since its launch in 1996, CégepBD has become an essential platform for young comic book creators in Quebec, offering them promising opportunities. Over the years, the competition has revealed talents like Julie Rocheleau, Samuel Cantin and Zviane, who are now well-established figures in the world of comics.

This year, second place went to Mélissa Groleau-Perez, a student in Accounting and management techniques. Thanks to his work Bird story, Mélissa was able to capture the attention of the selection committee. The drawing presented to the jury was dense and expressive, making remarkable use of textures, which are at the heart of its creation. Its staging, although sober, tells the story effectively. This admirable work allowed Mélissa to win a $500 scholarship.

The Cégep à Terrebonne would like to highlight Mélissa’s undeniable talent which allowed her to stand out in this prestigious competition and congratulates all the participants.
