Another basement fire this Saturday around 5:30 am in Douai. This time, it broke out at the La Cervoise residence. 5 vehicles were hit by the flames and 13 people had to be evacuated from the building.

A fire broke out at dawn this Saturday morning in Douai, in the basement of building A of the Cervoise residence, located rue Notre-Dame des Wetz in Douai. Five vehicles were burned. Two people were slightly intoxicated and transported to CH Douai for additional examinations. Eleven others were evacuated and sheltered in the Maillard room.

Ventilated apartments

In the morning, firefighters ventilated the apartments using large fans and took carbon monoxide measurements. Enedis and GRDF intervened on site, affecting at least 300 homes. The police were present, as well as around forty firefighters from Douai, Tourcoing, Cambrai, Valenciennes and Lille. The mayor of Douai, Frédéric Chéreau, and his deputy, Mohamed Khéraki, were also on site.

Causes of fire unknown

The causes of the fire remain unknown and an investigation will be carried out to determine them. Recently, several fires have taken place in basements in Douai. Last week it was rue du Grand Bail.
