Dramatic. Saturday evening, in the Bocca district of Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes), the celebration of a wedding was cut short when a four-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle on Chemin de la Bastide. The party was held in a building overlooking the street and the child was visibly near the roadway when the accident took place, a little before 9 p.m.
Immediately informed, the emergency services were unfortunately unable to do anything to save the little victim. She was in cardio-respiratory arrest when the firefighters and emergency services arrived. Concerning the motorist involved, the latter informed the police before fleeing, explaining that he could not stay at the scene for fear of being attacked by the crowd.

This did not prevent the police from arresting him later in the evening, at his home in La Roquette-sur-Siagne, ten kilometers further north. He was taken into custody and subjected to a double screening for alcohol and drugs. The first results were negative. He should be indicted shortly for “involuntary manslaughter”. Four wedding guests, in shock, were also treated by emergency services. In total, 35 firefighters were mobilized for this intervention.
