Saint Louis, June 29 (APS) – The Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock, Mabouba Diagne deplored, Friday, the closure of the Mbilor agricultural farm, given the role it could play in the paradigm shift in Senegal which spends some 1070 billion FCFA in the importation of foodstuffs.

“It is deplorable, if we import one thousand seventy billion in foodstuffs while we have this agricultural farm of more than 100 hectares and less than 800 meters from water”, regretted the guardianship while carrying out, Friday, a visit to the agricultural farm of Mbilor located in the department of Dagana (north).

“(…) We must deplore the billions that Senegal has lost here, and we must learn from the mistakes we have made here,” insisted the Minister of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Livestock.

He insisted on the need for a paradigm shift so that “these failures, which can be avoided, do not happen again”.

According to Mabouba Diagne, these farms can contribute to the employability of young people and women and also help breeders to take ownership of fodder crops.

In this, he promised to get closer to the association of agricultural engineers of Senegal, agricultural and livestock technicians for the upcoming relaunch of activities, in order to allow women and young people to benefit from the opportunities offered by agricultural farms.
