Lewis Hamilton surprises with his interest in buying a MotoGP team.

It is well known that Lewis Hamilton follows MotoGP closely, but now the still Mercedes driver in Formula 1 could consider going further and getting involved in the championship by buying a team.

This is Gresini Racing, which has an agreement as a customer team for Ducati – the most competitive manufacturer at the moment – and confirmed Álex Márquez as one of its riders for 2025 on Monday. It is a team well established in the paddock and capable of fighting for good results, with one of its riders – Marc Márquez – currently third in the championship.

The-Race.com writes that sources close to Gresini confirm the interest in a possible acquisition by Hamilton. Currently, the owner is Nadia Padovani, who took over the structure after the death of its founder – and her husband – Fausto Gresini in 2021.

The Dutch Grand Prix at Assen took place this weekend, and there is speculation that someone close to Hamilton was there with Gresini. At this stage, discussions appear to be at a preliminary and exploratory stage of the feasibility of the project.

Despite a very busy schedule in F1, Hamilton has several activities outside the paddock, such as the X44 team in Extreme E, a network of vegan restaurants or the film production company Dawn Apollo Films. In sports, he is a co-owner of the NFL American football team, the Denver Broncos.

As for his motorcycling ties, #44 has already helped design limited edition bikes for MV Agusta. In 2019, he had the chance to ride a MotoGP bike in a joint venture with Valentino Rossi. Now, Hamilton could be eyeing a MotoGP ride as an owner, and he could even count on the help of some of his loyal, long-term sponsors to do so.
