On the heights of Wuppertal, in North Rhine-Westphalia, red brick industrial buildings sit side by side with colourful houses. In the heart of this working-class district, two hundred men and women storm a gigantic gymnasium on this rainy May day.

They are between 16 and 89 years old, most of them amateurs, dance students or professionals. Under the leadership of a handful of French dancers from the Terrain group and the Tanztheater, they warm up and start off, in small clusters at first, then all together in a large circle.
