LEGISLATIVE Catherine Daufès-Roux, candidate for the 5th constituency, with the ambition of a second round

Former deputy for the fifth constituency from 2021 to 2022, Catherine Daufès-Roux (Ensemble) is once again a candidate for the legislative elections in this same constituency. Currently assistant principal at Léo-Larguier college in La Grand’Combe, she expresses strong support for Gabriel Attal, particularly for his educational policy, and strongly aspires to reach the second round of the election, the first round of which takes place this Sunday June 30th.

The dissolution of the National Assembly did not take Catherine Daufès-Roux by surprise. Although she did not anticipate this decision precisely on this evening in June 2024, she welcomed it, welcoming both the choice and the timing: “Given what was in the chamber, it couldn’t last five years.”she explains. “By 2027, it was certain that this would happen.” For her, it was then obvious to run again – for the second time – in the legislative elections to conquer this constituency, currently held since 2022 by the outgoing MP Michel Sala (LFI – NFP). This time, two former MPs are facing off in the constituency, each defending a record. Although Catherine Daufès-Roux’s term was relatively short, having replaced Olivier Gaillard who resigned, Michel Sala’s was not much longer, also limited to two years.

Show up to win

For Catherine Daufès-Roux, whose ambitions are clear and boil down to an uncompromising victory, the questions from other colleagues about her choice in the second round are poorly received, since she sees herself there. Among her rivals, we find Léa Boyer (LR), elected to the town hall of Alès, Nordine Tria, Alesian civil society lawyer, Agnès Olinet of the Lutte Ouvrière, and Alexandre Allegret-Pilot who defends the colors of the alliance The Republicans-National Rally. And another direct competitor: Michel Sala, candidate for re-election after his victory in 2022 under the banner of Nupes, now under the label of the New Popular Front. For Catherine Daufès-Roux, this changes nothing: “Michel Sala presents himself as a candidate for the New Popular Front but he is in reality an LFI candidate”she says. “I received his profession of faith, and he clearly shows Mélenchon’s head in a big way. We must not forget that he comes from the NPA, currently represented by Poutou, and that he is located on the far left of the political spectrum.”

Beyond her critical opinion on the union of the Left, Catherine Daufès-Roux denounces the “chaos” and the “organized bazaar” by the La France Insoumise group within the hemicycle, of which Michel Sala was a member. “It’s an attitude that harms the Left. Former socialist, I think this behavior is detrimental to this political camp”she says. On the ground, she criticizes – like many political figures – Michel Sala for his lack of local presence. “He was barely visible on the field. I even noticed on social networks that he was carrying out actions outside the constituency, such as a discussion café in Remoulins, which is not in the 5th constituency. He also went to Villefort to support I don’t remember who. The 5th district is already large enough to require such outings”, she criticizes. It is clear that for Daufès-Roux, Michel Sala mainly devoted himself to political politics. “in the service of La France Insoumise and Mélenchon”.

From Macron to Attal, unwavering support

“The label Together for the Republic is a label that I fully assume, in its own right,” explains Catherine Daufès-Roux. “I don’t see what other label I could sign up for today, if not for a label that doesn’t exist: the one that Bernard Cazeneuve could have represented, who didn’t build a strong movement. Ensemble is therefore the label that suits me best.” Like Nadia El Okki in the fourth constituency (read again ici), Catherine Daufès-Roux proudly takes stock of the seven years of Emmanuel Macron’s presidency, although she recognizes imperfections. “To say that everything was done well, no! Mistakes were made, I understand that. But at the moment, I do not see myself in the New Popular Front dominated by La France Insoumise, I do not see myself in Les Républicains, and even less in the National Rally. I am ready to assume my choice.”

To commit herself as a deputy in the fifth constituency, Catherine Daufès-Roux nevertheless carries the presidential record with conviction. “We have reduced unemployment, we hardly hear about unemployment anymore in election campaigns. During the Covid crisis, the State defended and protected everyone, it was essential and no one was left behind. On taxation, the commitment not to increase taxes was kept. In terms of environmental protection, we reduced greenhouse gas emissions by 6% this year, the best score achieved. We are in the top 5 European countries for the energy transition, ahead of us, only the Scandinavian countries. Regarding purchasing power, despite a global crisis and a war in Ukraine, we managed well. A balance sheet cannot be 100% positive,” she says.

If she is elected, education as a standard

Deputy headmistress of the Léo-Larguier college in La Grand’Combe, Catherine Daufès-Roux has always considered the issue of education to be a priority. With a Prime Minister like Gabriel Attal, who is running to continue his program, the former Minister of Education pleases Catherine Daufès-Roux. “He has taken good measures. In the National Education system, there has been the doubling of CP and CE1 classes in the REP to promote equal opportunities. Attal has proposed the short-term replacement of teachers so that there is a minimum of unprovided class hours. I am in a middle school, and the teachers’ pact allows absent colleagues to be replaced. Gabriel Attal is the one who is holding his own best, facing a Bardella who, in his program, is backtracking.”

“During my mandate as an MP from 2021 to 2022, I was very present on the ground and listened to residents and communities. I always sought to respond quickly and effectively to all the issues that were raised to me. submitted. I sincerely believe that I have responded to each question from residents. Proximity has been at the heart of my parliamentary action, and if I am re-elected, I will certainly continue on this path. he must also actively defend the interests of his territory.”

If Catherine Daufès Roux is elected, she will carry out this educational program with determination. In addition, it is committed to completing the Alès-Nîmes dual carriageway project and supporting the Saint-Christol-lez-Alès diversion. The Alesian by birth also wishes to provide global support to the region’s farmers by “rewriting constraints and simplifying regulations”. The candidate Ensemble pour la République proposes to promote agricultural projects by improving access to water, in particular by building hill roads to transport the water needed for farms. On the national level, she plans to ask to sit on the Education Committee to work “in favor of the school of the Republic and equal opportunities. »
