The City of Bourges is due to inaugurate, this Saturday morning, the work to requalify public spaces which has been carried out on rue Ferrée, in the Asnières district.

Elected officials from the City of Bourges will meet this Saturday morning, at 10 a.m., in rue Ferrée, in the Asnières-lès-Bourges district, to inaugurate the work to redevelop public spaces that has been carried out in this street in recent months.

Rue Ferrée, located between rue Danton and rue Raspail, has been completely redesigned “in line with other developments carried out in the neighborhood”, indicates the City in a press release.

The first phase of work on rue d’Auron in Bourges will begin on July 1st

Reconstituted stone curbs and gutters in light-coloured stone were installed, the road surface was raised “to the same level as the initial sidewalks”, which allowed “the creation of a meeting area”, and thus “to meet accessibility criteria by integrating pedestrian movement across the entire street area.” Pedestrian crossings were reviewed, and now include “detection devices for visually impaired people.” And cyclists can now travel freely in both directions (against-flow cycle lanes). “Pedestrian and bicycle traffic therefore takes priority over vehicle traffic throughout this area”, the City emphasises.

On the safety side, speed reduction devices, of the raised platform type, have been provided at the entrance and exit of rue Ferrée, and the speed will be limited to 20km/hour. And the parking spaces on the street have been marked differently so that they are more visible.

Work to bury the networks (public lighting, etc.) was also carried out upstream, before the start of the work.

A project costing 325,000 euros excluding tax

All the work to requalify the street amounts to 325,000 euros excluding tax. They were mainly financed by the City of Bourges (304,000 euros excluding tax), i.e. 200,000 euros excluding tax for road works, 90,000 euros excluding tax for burying the networks, 9,000 euros excluding tax for public lighting, 3,000 euros for signaling and 2,000 euros excluding tax for network detection.

The remaining 21,000 euros were covered by Bourges Plus, since they concern the work carried out on the rainwater network (for which Bourges Plus has jurisdiction).
