Kenitra: arrest of the “euro” gang

The services of the gendarmerie of the Gharb brigade, in coordination with the National Brigade of the judicial police, arrested the leader of a criminal gang specializing in euro fraud.

Authorized sources indicate that this gang frightened businessmen to rob them of their money after having lured them into forests in the region. The Kenitra gendarmerie services received a complaint from a businessman from M’diq who was attacked by this “euro gang” and robbed of 100,000 dirhams.

The reappearance of these criminal gangs, after the arrest of 50 individuals guilty of similar crimes in the last four years, has mobilized all the security apparatuses in the region. The accused were sentenced to heavy sentences, up to 15 years in prison.

The preliminary investigation revealed that the leader of the gang made his victims believe that he had large sums in euros and that he intended to change them into dirhams at a very attractive rate. The suspect, arrested on June 26 in the vicinity of Sidi Slimane, was the subject of 13 wanted notices.

He is pursued, relayed Al Akhbar, for forming a criminal gang, assault, rape and euro fraud. The accused was placed in police custody for the purposes of the investigation before being presented probably on Saturday morning before the King’s Attorney General at the Court of Appeal of Kenitra.

Elements of the judicial police are continuing their investigations to identify the ramifications of the network and arrest the accomplices. The same sources indicate that at the same time as this investigation, the gendarmes recorded a similar case. Indeed, an entrepreneur from Taza was lured, via intermediaries, by the same means before being attacked and dispossessed of 60,000 dirhams.
