A few days before Canada Day, 70% of citizens think their country is “broken,” according to a report from the company Ipsos published Friday. Young adults are more likely to agree with this statement.

Nearly one in five individuals aged 18 to 34 (78%) hold this opinion. The vast majority of people who tend to vote Conservative also agree (96%).

“Do people feel like their country is broken? No. They feel like their institutions are broken and they’ve lost their sense of unity,” said Darrell Bricker, CEO of Ipsos public affairs at Global News.
