The outgoing member of La France insoumise was easily re-elected in the only constituency entirely in Montpellier. She obtained 58.22% of the votes, far ahead of Robert Le Stum (Ensemble), 17.04% and the National Rally candidate, Falvia Mangano, 16.97%.

It is a barrier against the wave of the National Rally observed in almost all the other constituencies of Hérault. The outgoing deputy Nathalie Oziol, candidate for the New Popular Front, was largely re-elected this Sunday in Montpellier with 58.22% of the votes.

Very strong participation

What was a possibility, given the favourable results obtained by La France Insoumise during the European elections, became a reality this Sunday: a re-election in the first round, with more than 15,000 votes ahead of its main adversaries, the representative of the presidential majority, Robert Le Stum (17.04%) and the candidate of the National Rally, Flavia Mangano (16.97%).

Close to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, an activist for La France Insoumise since 2016, Nathalie Oziol thus strengthens her presence in an area that includes the districts of La Paillade and Cévennes. A much more mobilized constituency with a turnout of 63.13% when it had been 43.48% in June 2022. Unlike this previous election, Nathalie Oziol had, this time, no dissident candidate facing her, which most certainly favored her re-election. With more than 15,000 votes ahead of her competitors, she was the big beneficiary of this increase in turnout. “I noticed that many young people from working-class neighborhoods went to vote. It is these working-class sectors of society that are bringing down the extreme right. We can see that we are faced with two choices for society.” explains the elected official.

Without the support of Michaël Delafosse

This victory confirms the very left-wing anchoring of Montpellier, already observed during the presidential elections and a few weeks ago during the European elections. The city was the only one in France to place France Insoumise candidate Manon Aubry in the lead with Lille and Strasbourg. “We are continuing this dynamic” adds Nathalie Oziol.

During this lightning campaign, Nathalie Oziol, however, never received the support of Mayor Michaël Delafosse, unlike her colleague from the eighth constituency Sylvain Carrière. Many differences oppose the two elected officials, particularly on the question of support for the population of Gaza. His re-election in the first round established him permanently in the Montpellier political landscape.
