It’s done, Toulouse is champion of Europe and France! The Rouge et Noir achieved the incredible double at the end of a historic Garonne derby won (59-3) against theBordeaux Begles Union at the top of the French championship. A thunderous start, an absolutely merciless Antoine Dupont, a 23e Shield of Brennus… The summary of a Dantesque encounter!

Attendance record and modified protocol

With the Stade de France requisitioned for the 2024 Olympic Games, the Vélodrome venue hosted its very first Top 14 final. The opportunity to break an attendance record with 66,760 spectators. Note that it was René Bouscatel and Florian Grill, presidents of the FFR and the LNR, who took the place of the President of the Republic in the protocol and greeted all the players in the meeting after the Marseillaise, sung by the entire Stadium .

A Toulouse demonstration

Antoine Dupont doesn’t take long to shine. After a dynamic Toulouse action, the half inherits the oval from Thibaud Flament, resists the tackle and enters forcefully into the goal. Thomas Ramos adjusts his transformation perfectly. For his part, Avoid Tatafu receives a yellow card, for a tackle which hits Santiago Chocobares in the head. Then begins a duel in the sun between the gunners of each team. Maxime Lucu scores a first penalty (11e) and Thomas Ramos responds immediately (14e). The Red and Black and Black continue.

As night falls on the Marseille city, Toulouse wakes up, goes on and goes wild. First with a test on the wing of Peato Mauvaka (20e), ideally served by José Cruz Mallia (which Thomas Ramos does not transform). Then by a genuine stroke of genius. After a touch, Peato Mauvaka finds José Cruz Mallia blindly who serves Antoine DupontThe latter plays with his foot over his opposite number and rushes alone towards the in-goal area (24e). Thomas Ramos makes it happen. Then the meeting calms down until an incredible Gironde offering to the mermaid. A completely missed touch allows Peato Mauvaka to rush into the goal… He comes very close to the double before the break (22-3).

End point of an unbalanced finale

The UBB was more enterprising after returning from the locker room, but nothing succeeded. The pace of the match drops, Toulouse delays, but Thomas Ramos finally made the break. First by widening the gap on a penalty at the restart (43e) then being at the finish of a nice kick from Romain Ntamack (64e), the test is not transformed. Bordeaux Bègles is stunned and concedes two tries in quick succession. First by Julien Marchand (68e), then by Blair Kinghorn (70e). The rout is total. Antoine Dupont gives way to Paul Graou under the cries of a delirious crowd chanting his name. Thomas Ramos (74e) et David to Ainu (79e) add to the incredible difference in the score.

After the siren, Bordeaux attempted a final attack to save honor. But, against all expectations, Toulouse recovers the ball and does not take the ball out. The players are determined to try their luck over 100 meters to complete a match worthy of all superlatives. Angel Capuozzo, concludes the action and achieves the feat. The match ends with nine tries to zero.

The Stadium achieves an incredible double, a World Cup year, in a one-sided final!
