The State of Senegal, through its Public Treasury, raised on June 28, 2024 on the financial market of the West African Monetary Union (WAMU) an amount of 40.139 billion FCFA (64.222 million dollars) following an auction issue of assimilable treasury bonds (BAT) with maturities of 91 and 182 days.

The aim of the issue is to mobilize the savings of natural and legal persons with a view to ensuring coverage of the financing needs of the State budget of Senegal. To do this, the Senegalese Public Treasury had put out to tender an amount of 40 billion FCFA and ended up with overall bids of 54.221 billion FCFA, or a coverage rate of 135.55%.

Of the amount of the bids, the issuer retained 40.139 billion FCFA and rejected the remaining 14.082 billion FCFA, representing an absorption rate of 74.03%. The weighted average yield stands at 6.61% for 91-day BATs and 7.00% for 182-day BATs.

The bonds will be repaid on the first business day following the due date set at September 29, 2024 for 91-day maturity securities and December 29, 2024. Interest will be paid in advance and deducted from the nominal value of the bonds, which is one million FCFA.

UMOA-Titres data indicate that the cumulative 2024 issues of public securities (treasury bills and bonds) made by Senegal on the UMOA financial market amount to 303 billion FCFA as of June 27, 2024. The amount of capital repaid is 272 billion FCFA and that of interest paid is 76 billion FCFA.
