Due to the lack of a substantial budget, namely $6,200, Canada Day was held soberly in Matane, without the usual fireworks.

In any case, the public showed up in large numbers yesterday, July 1, between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m., at the Le Barachois Art Center. Free parking spaces all around, even those at the marina and the Nancy-Charest municipal park, were very rare.

Popular family activities

Encouraged by the sunny weather and a temperature of 26 degrees Celsius, people crowded into the Art Center with families, especially on the outdoor terrace, decorated with white and red balloons instead of maple flags.

It was an opportunity to celebrate Canada’s 157th anniversary, by listening to singer Dave Simard on stage, enjoying inflatable games and the talent of face painters for children, having access to bar service, enjoying hot dogs, popcorn and cotton candy at low prices, and of course sharing the traditional cake.

organizing committee

As in previous years, this celebration would not have been possible without the work of the organizing committee made up of Andrée Métivier, Annie Joncas and Luc Gagnon. Their main partners: Canadian Heritage and the Corporation de gestion récréotouristique de Matane.
