Clermont: traffic restrictions on the Saint-Jacques viaduct

The rehabilitation work on the structure of the Saint-Jacques viaduct in Clermont continues. The worksite requires closures of the structure this summer and several nights until the end of the year.

At the end of July, it will already be a year since major work began on the structure of the Saint-Jacques viaduct, which has seen many vehicles pass through daily since 1967 and the tramway since 2006. The structure of the all-concrete structure has aged, damaged by water and salt deposited on the deck in winter. The colossal project, consisting of removing the damaged concrete from the piers and rebuilding it using new consolidation techniques, sometimes requires partially or completely interrupting traffic. These phases, which impact the flow of traffic, which is already difficult for the reasons we know, take place during the holiday periods to minimize the consequences.

Partial or total daytime closures in summer

Until July 14, traffic is closed in the downhill direction, from July 15 to August 4, it will be closed in the uphill direction, and finally from August 5 to 21 the viaduct will be closed to car traffic in both directions, but pedestrians and trams will be able to continue to use it. A diversion system will be put in place.
To ensure the safety of property and people, Clermont Auvergne Métropole has modified parking around the Saint-Jacques viaduct. The parking lot under the deck is thus closed until the end of July while the spaces on Cours Raymond-Poincaré are neutralized along the viaduct.

Nights too

Until November, the restoration work on the Saint-Jacques viaduct will require 14 nights of total closure, including trams and pedestrians, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.. These closures will be effective on Mondays : July 8, 22 and 29, August 5, 12 and 19, September 2, 9 and 16, October 7, 14 and 28, and finally, Monday, November 4 and 18. During these nights, diversions will be put in place and T2C will take the necessary measures.
