“The last 30 kilometers, I must have taken 3 hours”… The incredible arrival by bike of a Gers resident at the North Cape

the essential
Having left Auch by bike on May 25, Daniel Legars arrived at his objective: the North Cape in Norway. Story of a last laborious day and heading back to France for the cyclist.

He did it ! One month and one day after leaving Auch, Daniel Legars arrived in the North Cape (Norway) with his bike on Wednesday evening. However, the final straight line was a long ordeal: “The last day, I had 125 kilometers to do: the first 100, fingers in my nose, but for the last 30 kilometers, I had to take 3 hours to because of the headwind and a parade of buses which destabilized me”, explains the cyclist.

The Auscitain has indeed achieved his first objective. He stood in front of the globe at the North Cape: “I had already done it a few years ago. It is not an end in itself, but it is a satisfaction to have reached the end”, humbly reports the athlete who finished his outward journey two days ahead of schedule.

A little scare

But the moment could have turned sour and signaled the end of Daniel’s adventure: “I had a small accident. There were huge gusts of wind when I arrived at the North Cape. In the car park, I was looking for a place to pitch the tent. That’s when a gust of wind destabilized me, I fell and the pedal hit my shin”, explains Daniel, who ended the day with several stitches in hospital. More fear than harm, the cyclist only has a bandage and his wound does not hinder his efforts.

Now the cyclist has been able to get back on the saddle. Having reached the end of Norway has not affected his determination: “I am programmed to do the round trip, I am not going to be demotivated!”, says Daniel.

On the way back, Daniel will take a different route by returning via Sweden, Germany or even Italy. If all goes well, the sixty-year-old will be back in Gers in 5 weeks, the estimated time to cover 5,000 kilometers.
