Amidst the turmoil within his party, Les Républicains (LR), following his agreement with the National Rally, Eric Ciotti came out on top in the first round of the legislative elections on Sunday June 30, obtaining 41.04% of the votes in the 1re constituency of Alpes-Maritimes.
The contested president of LR came out well ahead of the candidate of the New Popular Front, Olivier Salerno (26.62%), and that of Horizons, Graig Monetti (22.79%) and the candidate nominated by his own movement, Virgile Vanier-Guérin (5.78%).
Throughout this campaign, the elected representative of the Alpes-Maritimes had assumed his past alliance with the RN, despite the challenge from all the LR leaders, essential according to him to maintain a group of right-wing elected officials in the Assembly national. “I brought a voice of clarity that refuses synthesis, compromise”he explained in mid-June, then evoking a “country threatened by the shameful alliance of Nupes, the “insoumis” with the Socialist Party”as well as by “Emmanuel Macron’s impotence”.
