A new and very special banknote of the European currency will soon be in circulation. The company Euro Banknote Memory, the publisher, gives the specificities and the role of these 0€ banknote denominations.
A zero euro note will be put into circulation at the beginning of July by the company Euro Banknote Memory. Produced by Oberthur Fiduciaire, a French group specializing in the printing of secure documents and banknotes, there will be some 3,000 notes numbered between 000001 and 003000 to be put on sale. These notes with a zero market value, therefore not intended for commercial exchanges, are issued as part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Normandy landings, on June 6, 1944. An important event in the history of Europe which laid, from that date, the foundations for the construction of the European Union and its single currency, the Euro.
This particular zero euro note will be identical to the real note with its special ink, watermarks to ensure its quality and authenticity, a security thread, holograms, and even unique serial numbers. These new notes will include historical references to General De Gaulle’s appeal on June 18, 1940, the date of the Normandy landings on June 6, 1944, and May 8, 1945, the date of the signing of the armistice. Finally, the same notes will be stamped with the words ” Honor to the men and women of all nations who united to liberate our country ».
How much does the 0€ note cost?
It should be noted that the banknotes in question were already offered for sale on the Internet in the winter of 2024, and on February 11, on the occasion of the 21st edition of the Salon des Collectionneurs d’Isle, near Limoges, in Haute-Vienne. Two banknotes could be purchased at a maximum price of 3 euros per denomination. That said, it should finally be noted that the edition of collector’s banknotes did not begin with these zero euro denominations from the company Euro Banknote Memory.
Already in 2015, the issuance of this type of banknote became widespread to pay homage to particular events and tourist sites. Moreover, since this date, around 2,500 various designs have been offered for sale by the company Euro Banknote Memory, which still makes it its specialty. Without monetary value in their current state, these limited edition collector’s notes could, like all collectibles, acquire great value in the future.
