This weekend, the Angoulême fire station takes on a Basque or Landes accent. For its second consecutive edition, the firefighters’ ball offers its audience the theme of the ferias. On the program, the presence of the banda de Chasseneuil in the first part of the evening, a DJ at nightfall. There are many activities: fire eaters, dancers: ” It’s a real moment of sharing and conviviality. There will also be quite a few surprises. It’s a pride to open our doors » says Ronny Rius, vice-president of the firefighters association, in charge of organizing the event.

A rare immersion

For this Saturday, the Angoulême firefighters’ ball to be a success, there will be around a hundred working from early in the morning until late at night: ” The goal is for the public to have a good time, to not miss anything. It is for everyone the only time of the year when we open our doors to the public. ” says Pierre Decerisier, president of the firefighters’ association. If the evening will be all about partying, the afternoon also offers a unique discovery of the place, especially for children: ” Making a child happy is a pleasure. Many young kids think about becoming a firefighter, sometimes it passes with time, other times, it is a real vocation. During this type of event it is the opportunity to show them the trucks, the fire hoses, to discover the universe » says Pierre Decerisier.

Fallback solution in case of rain

The event is organized throughout the week. Between preparing the bars, the catering, the different spaces and especially the stage. With capricious weather in recent weeks and the threat of rain, the Angoumois firefighters have planned everything: ” Plan B is to get people into the big garages that will be emptied for the occasion. After that, if we can avoid it and stick to plan A, it will still be a very good thing. “If the weather permits, the firefighters’ association expects nearly 4,000 people at this event, more than double the number from last year.

A prospect that makes everyone proud… In particular some retirees who also come to lend their hands to help the new generation with the preparations: “ It’s good that the ball is back after 30 years without an event. These are lovely moments of conviviality for the teams. The kind of memorable memories ” assures Alain Faure, retired for more than 5 years.
