The setting, the heart of the city and the Basilica of Epinal as a witness, a very high-level plateau and competition, multiple and varied entertainment, the contours of the 2024 edition of the Perch’Stacul’Air of Epinal offer serious guarantees. Only one parameter, impossible to anticipate, can still stand in the way of the run-up of world-class athletes: the weather. In 2022, storms and rain had competed in mischief. “I don’t know, I don’t remember anymore,” confides Jean-Baptiste Henriot (event manager) as if to ward off fate.

The 2024 edition will offer multiple activities. “We will offer a discovery of pole vaulting to schools, extracurriculars and social centers, i.e. nearly 500 young people. There will also be events for businesses, one for the press. An entertainment village will be in place on the theme of athletics and the Games,” adds Jean-Baptiste Henriot.

Menno Vloon headlines close to 6 meters!

On Thursday evening (July 4) at 6:30 p.m., a show will feature Baptiste Boirie, world record holder (6.17 ms!) for jumping on… an electric skateboard (for momentum). Even the Basilica of Epinal risks being turned upside down! And the highlight of the show will take place on Friday July 5 (from 6 p.m.), with a high-level pole vault competition in the heart of the Cité des Images, in the open air. A unique opportunity to measure what crossing bars at these heights represents. The field is not yet completely finalized, the French Elite championships are currently being held in Angers. But Menno Vloon, record holder from the Netherlands (5.96 m), will be a world-class gondola leader.

Also announced are Alioune Sene (bronze medalist at the French indoor championships, record at 5.76m), Mathis Prod’Homme, French junior champion (record at 5.60m), Mathieu Collet, French espoir champion (5.74m). “We are in talks with two of the three potential French selections for Paris 2024 (Baptiste Thiery and Robin Emig) who are trying to achieve the Olympic minimums this weekend. If they do not go to the Charléty meeting, they should come to Epinal. The idea is to have a competition of eight high-level pole vaulters,” concludes Baptiste Henriot.
