Angoulême: Patrick Mardikian elected president of Magelis

Departmental advisor and president of the Cité de la BD, Patrick Mardikian will occupy his new position, unless there is a change between now and then, until 2026.

The editorial team advises you

What will be your first decision?

I am in a process of continuity and a desire to continue the roadmap drawn up by Philippe Bouty. There will be no revolution. I want to work as a priority on breaking down barriers between players in the image sector. We need a global vision and the fact that I am also president of Cité de la BD will go in this direction. My ambition is also to maintain our lead while we are increasingly competing with other territories.

Paradis Studios is a delicate issue. Where are we now?

On this subject, we have set up a steering committee bringing together our partners [Département, Région, État, ville d’Angoulême, GrandAngoulême]. It is associated with a technical committee. A study will be conducted, it will deliver its conclusions in early 2025. That is when we will have a trend regarding the future of the Paradis studios but also that of the Vaisseau Moebius. For the former, my personal desire is to deploy the entire Cité de la BD there so that it is in the same place.

The opposition is concerned about the “rise in power” of the Region, desired by Philippe Bouty, within Magelis. Are you going to continue this policy?

Yes. I work well with the Region and our relations are good. We must mobilize resources to ensure our development and obtain aid for film production. I don’t know if the image sector is well identified in the Region.

Could the Department, which owns 60% of Magelis, lose its governance to the Region before the end of your term?

This is not the objective we have set for ourselves.

“When it’s blurry, there’s a wolf”

The tone rose and the microphones crackled just before the vote, Friday, between the opposition and the resigning president Philippe Bouty whose desire is to make the Region “rise in power” within Magelis. A formula that lacks clarity according to Jérôme Sourisseau: “When it’s vague, it’s because there’s a wolf,” the elected official asks. “You have spoken several times about this ‘rise in power’. It’s thrown like a stone in the pond, but what does it mean?” His ally François Bonneau continues: “I would be worried if the Region took the lead on Magelis, which would risk losing what makes it strong, namely its responsiveness and proximity.” Jérôme Sourisseau: “Can you tell us whether or not there will be additional seats for the Region? » No response from Bouty.
