Summary

Sean Whyte made a 42-yard field goal with two seconds left and the BC Lions beat the Edmonton Elks 24-21 on Thursday.

It’s the Elks’ fourth loss in as many games this season and third in a row by a three-point margin.

Quarterback Dakota Prukop gave the Elks the lead with a quarterback sneak in the fourth quarter, but David Mackie answered with a touchdown for the Lions. Boris Bede tied the game with a field goal for the Elks, but Whyte put the finishing touch on the hometown favourites with his third field goal of the game.

Former Montreal Alouettes running back William Stanback scored his first major in a uniform for the Lions, who have won their last three games after opening the season with a loss to the Toronto Argonauts.

Stanback finished the game with 42 rushing yards and 41 receiving yards on four receptions.

Vernon Adams Jr. connected with his receivers 27 times in 38 attempts for 331 yards and a touchdown.

Kurleigh Gittens Jr. also reached the end zone in the loss. Elks quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson completed 19 of 30 passes for 247 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.
