Paris 2024 Olympics: The French water polo team launches the final sprint of its Olympic preparation in Montpellier against Montenegro

The Blues of former Montpellier Rémi Saudadier host Montenegro of current MWP goalkeeper Lazar Andric in the Montpellier Olympic swimming pool. Kick-off Saturday at 8:30 p.m.

One month before the start of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, the French water polo team has arrived in the Hérault capital and is enjoying the superb facilities of the Angelotti swimming pool.

And this is not to displease Rémi Saudadier: “I find people who are familiar to me, rejoices the member of the French team and French champion with Montpellier in 2014. It’s a city I have only good memories of. The pool is fantastic with stands on both sides, perfect for a great show.”

A sold-out pool?

Saturday evening (8:30 p.m.), the show will undoubtedly be there. France faces Montenegro in a friendly match in front of nearly 1,800 spectators curious to see the Blues and their star Thomas Vernoux, fourth in the last world championships, at work. “There, we enter a cycle with around ten matches in two weeks, a period which is similar to what we will experience at the Olympic Games in Paris in a month, explain Saudadier. After more than a month of physical preparation and swimming training, this is the most interesting part, the one where we will have fun and work on the tactical aspect.”

Facing France, Montenegro, a strong water polo nation. Lazar Andric, one of the goalkeepers of the selection, is the goalkeeper of Montpellier: “I’m happy to play here with my team, there will be people in the stands. Our team is not very physical but we are counting on our speed, our sense of tactics, pressure in defense and movement. France is progressing, it will be well prepared and is aiming for a medal at the Olympics.”
