Nîmes: a vintage poster inspires a unique jersey to relive a historic July 14

July 14, 1949 marks a memorable date in the annals of cycling. On that day, the Tour de France, in its third edition after the Second World War, reached the city of Nîmes.

An arrival that coincides with the national holiday, after an epic 289-kilometre stage from Toulouse. That year, Fausto Coppi would achieve the feat of winning his first Giro-Tour double, thus etching his name into cycling legend.

This is the captivating story behind a vintage poster hanging above the checkout counter at the Morgan Cycles store. This vintage image was the source of inspiration for the creation of a special jersey, celebrating the arrival of the 16th stage of the Tour de France in Nîmes, scheduled for July 16, 2024.

This unique jersey was designed by the talented Pierre Busson and made by the prestigious Santini house in Bergamo. This prestigious collaboration between design and tradition pays tribute to the history of cycling and the 1949 edition of the Tour.

Only 75 copies of this exclusive jersey will be available. They will be delivered during a special event at the Morgan Cycles store, immediately after the Tour finishes in Nîmes. Visitors will have the opportunity to discover a few additional surprises as they celebrate this historic moment in cycling sport and fashion.

In short, this event does not just commemorate a stage of the Tour de France; it brings together past and present in a unique celebration of cycling heritage, offering enthusiasts a collector’s item that embodies the spirit and history of the Tour.
