The national police carried out a control operation on Thursday June 27 in the city center of Montpellier. In two and a half hours, a dozen offenses were sanctioned.

Multiple violations of the Highway Code committed by electric scooter riders were noted and fined in downtown Montpellier on Thursday June 27.

During this operation carried out between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., the national police penalized two of them for excessive speed, three for driving in the wrong direction, two for crossing a solid line, three for running red lights. Cases of passenger transport have also been noted.

Recent fatal accidents

This intervention by the police comes in a context where many serious accidents involving scooters have occurred in Montpellier. Recently, two deaths and one victim between life and death were recorded during the same week. The police remind that wearing a helmet, although not mandatory, is strongly recommended.

He hits a woman carrying a baby

The recklessness of some drivers was illustrated again a few days ago at the corner of Route de Lavérune and Rue des Manguiers. A witness reported that a scooter, on which a young man and a young woman were riding, overtook a line of cars stopped at a pedestrian crossing and hit a woman who was crossing while carrying a baby in her arms. Fortunately, the collision caused no casualties.
