What if you supported the Unexpected in Dieppe by renting a “piece” of the building?

“We have a great place that we like. The owner is giving us our chance,” smiles Frédérique Gerber, coordinator at Unexpected. As a reminder, this place, located avenue Normandie-Sussex in Dieppe (Seine-Maritime), brings together various actors from thesocial and solidarity economy such as Agnel, the local currency, Atelier 13, a solidarity grocery store…

The Unexpected threatened in 2023

In 2023, the future of the Inattendu was threatened, since the building it occupies was going to be bought. Luckily, the investor who acquired the premises was seduced by the values advocated by the activity collective.

So, he had offered not to charge rent for the first year, to help them get started. But the deadline is coming up and now, the Inattendu will have to pay a monthly rent of… €3,500. So to do this, two ways have been thought of to be able to pay part of the rent.

Office and space rental

Already, the entire Unexpected floor will be redeveloped into officesas Frédérique Gerber explains. “We will offer office rental on a temporary or permanent basis,” she explains. Three offices will be made available as well as a meeting room.

But the other initiative, which is at least unusual, is the fact of being able to rent “a piece” of the Inattendu. At the reception, a puzzle of the place has been created. It is made up of 150 pieces. “If you take a piece of the puzzle, you agree to rent it for 5 € per month. This allows us to provide access to spaces of the Unexpected and to be a stakeholder in our actions,” continues Frédérique Gerber.

If all the pieces of the puzzle are sold, the Inattendu will already be able to receive €750 of the €3,500 rent.

Soon, thanks to the support of many people, Unexpected will be able to create a Scic, a cooperative society of collective interest.

For the coordinator, “these initiatives will help us start and continue to maintain the culture here. We also have the idea of ​​bringing in varied audiences,” she concludes. This project to rent a “piece” of the Inattendu will be officially presented this Friday, June 28, 2024 at the end of the day.
