Zapping But! Football Club RC Lens: who is the best summer recruit for the Blood and Gold?

This Friday, La Voix du Nord devotes an article to the revelation, yesterday, by the Pas-de-Calais department, of the identity of the person who will light the Olympic cauldron on Wednesday July 3. This is Eric Sikora. Obviously for everyone in Artois, the city of Lens is associated with Racing and the former right-back, who spent his entire career there, is also associated with the RCL.

“It’s definitely a source of pride, an honor.”

“I was on the deckchair, on the beach,” Sikora told the regional daily. “I knew I was on the list, but others would have deserved it too. Didier Sénac, for example. I was waiting to find out, it’s obviously a source of pride, an honour, the Olympics in Paris, it’s a historic moment. It marks my career as a player and a coach but also my history with Lens. I’m really happy. Now, I mustn’t tear myself apart… The family, my daughters, everyone will try to come.”

Born in Courrières, just next to Lens, Eric Sikora joined Racing at the age of 12 and played professionally from the ages of 17 to 36. He participated in the conquest of the only two titles in the club’s history (1998 championship, 1999 League Cup) before occupying several positions once he hung up his boots, as assistant, head coach, reserve coach, U19 coach… A true Blood and Gold!

To sum up

Like Jean-Michel Larqué in Saint-Etienne, the city of Lens chose a legend from its club, in this case Eric Sikora, to light the Olympic cauldron. The event will take place at Place Jean-Jaurès next Wednesday, in front of 9,000 spectators.
