These results represent a significant change in this historically left-wing constituency, which has gone from a communist deputy, to a socialist deputy and finally to an RN deputy for two years.
This RN victory is part of a broader context, where a veritable electoral tsunami swept the Nord department with 35% of the votes, allowing five other RN candidates to directly win the first round.
Faced with this result, residents seem to share mixed feelings. Some express their resignation in the face of predictable political change, as one resident points out: “Macron made so many promises to the French. And they were so disappointed that they now say why not try the RN? It’s the only party that has never been tried.”.
