The fire started on the 3rd floor of a building before spreading to the roof of the building, in the city center of Oloron-Sainte-Marie. Firefighters are on site to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings.
A fire broke out around 3pm on Tuesday 2nd July in the city centre of Oloron-Sainte-Marie. The fire started on the 3rd floor of a building located on rue Louis Barthou. Three fire stations were deployed, the one from Oloron-Sainte-Marie and two others as reinforcements. Two hoses were deployed.

“The initial fire spread to the entire roof,” ifirefighters still on site at 5 p.m. “Numerous vehicles and personnel are being deployed to limit the spread of the fire to adjacent buildings.”.
“It’s impressive because it’s a 450m street with both sides almost uninterrupted by emptiness,” explains Mayor Bernard Uthurry. “So we always fear that it will take over the houses next door. And then we don’t know where it will stop with the wind and there it was very strong.”
Three fire stations are responding to this fire located in the town centre of Oloron-Sainte-Marie.

One person was slightly poisoned. The residents of the building (8 people in total) were evacuated, as were those in adjacent homes as a precaution.
The causes of this disaster have not yet been established. An investigation will have to determine them.
