Following the banning of a xenophobic evening in Rouen, the prefect of Seine-Maritime has published an order banning demonstrations due to “risks of public order disturbances” for Friday, June 28.

The prefect of Seine-Maritime published, this Thursday, June 27, a decree aimed at prohibiting “all demonstrations” on public roads within a “circumscribed perimeter” in Rouen during the evening of Friday, June 28. This decision follows the ban on a xenophobic evening in Rouen on the same day.

This event “has no place in Rouen, nor anywhere in Europe. I have contacted the prosecutor, the prefect and will take my responsibilities. Racism and xenophobia are the hallmarks of the extreme right. They have no place in the Republic”, wrote the mayor of Rouen Nicolas Mayer-Rossignol on the social network X.

The evening “Auslander raus (Foreigners out, editor’s note)” was to be organized at the local association “Le Mora”. After the ban, by decision of the town hall, an appeal was filed by the lawyers of the association “Le Mora”.

“Risks of disturbance to public order”

The Seine-Maritime prefecture therefore suspects the organizers of “maintaining” their event this Friday, June 28.

“Following the publication of this decree, the association’s lawyers indicated on social networks that they were filing an interim relief order to suspend the municipal decree. The announcement of this appeal reveals the organizers’ desire to continue organizing their event this Friday,” the prefecture said.

At the same time, groups opposed to the ideas conveyed by this evening called for mobilization during this evening to fight against the organization of this evening.

“Risks of disturbances to public order and clashes between antagonistic demonstrators on public roads have been identified,” indicates the prefecture.

From 5 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Thus, in order to “prevent these risks”, the prefecture established a perimeter banning demonstrations between 5 p.m. and 4 a.m. the following morning.

This perimeter is delimited by rue Racine and rue du Général-Giraud to the south, rue de la Vicomte, rue Écuyère and rue Dinandière to the east, rue Jean-Lecanuet to the north and boulevard des Belges to the east. ‘west.
