In the men’s division, the Influences CPA/Lapointe electrical contractor team defeated the Coaticook Devco bâtisseur/Transport Loubier & fils team by a score of 17 to 9 on Thursday evening at Quintal Park in Sherbrooke.

“This is our second year of existence,” says Jasmin Dumas. “We lost in the final last year in a heartbreaking defeat. We gained experience and after a poor performance on Wednesday, we played up to our talent on Thursday with two great victories. We all come from the region, it was our tournament! We wanted this trophy.”

Pitcher Steve Larochelle was in his last season after a long run at the Pif Classic.

“This isn’t my first championship, but it ends on a high note with the title this year at Pif. It’s our Stanley Cup. I don’t think I’ll stay in the world of ball. I’m going to do something else now!” says Steve Larochelle, after the traditional champagne shower.

Sherbrooke’s Dany Laprise was voted Player of the Match in the final and Alex Plante was voted Most Valuable Player for his team during the tournament.

Among the women, Shelby/STA tried to get back into the match, but the Construction MGP players were simply too strong, once again. The final score: 27 to 18 for the defending champions.

“It’s surprising to win twice in a row against the same team,” says Lory Lapierre. We were scared, but we defended ourselves well. Winning a second time in two years is even better. I have now learned how to uncork a bottle of champagne the right way to wash down my teammates.”

“It’s always a challenge to win the Pif,” said her team’s Most Valuable Player, Marie-Pier Huot. “It was extra pressure. We hit hard this week: 33-3, 19-2 and now 27-18 in the final. Everyone contributed. The team chemistry is very good. We have the drive, we know how to come back from behind. It’s a great mix of experience and youth. It’s great preparation for us for the next championship in Hamilton.”

Now, it’s time for the Invitation class, which begins on Friday at Quintal Park, Desranleau Park and Bureau Park, in the Fleurimont borough.
