Legislative elections: Ciotti-Salerno-Monetti triangular race, calls to withdraw… the latest on the 1st constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes

It was one of the hot spots of this legislative evening. In the first constituency of the Alpes-Maritimes, the outgoing LR deputy Eric Ciotti, who announced an alliance with the RN three weeks ago now, came out on top in the first round with 41.04% of the vote. The second round, this July 7, will be followed closely.

The results

The mobilization of 15,222 more voters than in 2022 benefited all candidates (or almost)… But in different proportions. It is above all the outgoing deputy who benefits from it. Eric Ciotti (41,01%) wins 9,538 votes in 2 years and is once again in the lead. Except this time he will have not one, but two opponents in the second round.

The union of the left has proven to be profitable. It allows Olivier Salerno, NFP/LFI candidate, to garner 6,239 more votes than his substitute in 2022. Graig Monetti, the candidate of the municipal and presidential majorityis therefore relegated to third place (22.79%).

Which second round this Sunday?

This was one of the questions this Monday. With more than 12.5% of those registered, Graig Monetti can take part in a triangular without betraying the rule laid down by the leader of his Horizons party, Edouard Philippe, who does not call for withdrawal from the RN or LFI. Noted. He announced in the morning his presence in the second round.

“I am best placed to bring together, I decided to maintain my candidacy. Faced with the betrayal and shame done to Nice and the people of Nice, beating Éric Ciotti and the RN is within reach”wrote the candidate of the presidential majority in a post on X.

Calls to vote for Craig Monetti

As early as Sunday evening, the candidate officially invested by LR had called for a vote by Craig Monetti in the second round. “For the second round, I call for a blockade against the extremes that do not propose concrete solutions. History has shown us that they are only capable of the worst. Next Sunday, make no mistake, Vote for the only candidate of the right and center: vote for Craig Monetti!”announced Virgile Vanier-Guérin, who received 5.78% of the votes.

On BFM Côte d’Azur, this Monday at the end of the day, the candidate who came third also claimed to have the support of “the green candidate” (Lalla Chama Ben Moulay came 5th with 2.81% of the votes, editor’s note).

Graig Monetti calls on Olivier Salerno to step down

“I call on Olivier Salerno to step down”added the candidate of the municipal and presidential majority, emphasizing that with his strong support, he represents 31% of the votes. “I am the only one who can bring victory against the extreme right this Sunday. It is a choice of lucidity.”

“His choice is not republican, he has forgotten his Gaullist compass”Olivier Salerno had indicated earlier in the day, while he was still calling at that time for Graig Monetti to withdraw from the race in the second round.
