Denise has passed away at Prairie Lake Seniors Facility in her sleep after a long illness. Denise grew up in Eaglesham, Alberta, where she took her schooling and married Fred Scriba on November 30th, 1962. She lived for a short time in Fort St. John, BC as well as Clairmont, Alberta before moving to Heart Valley, Alberta, where she became a farm wife until finally moving to Grand Prairie to enjoy semi-retirement.
Her cooking and baking skills were legendary, her favorite month with July, when she would spend the month as head cook at the David Thompson Bible Camp, feeding hungry campers and workers. She was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 1988 but enjoyed several winters in Yuma, AZ or Campbell River, BC, before being confined to Prairie Lakes for the last 11 years with dementia, which ultimately took her life.
Denise is survived by Fred, her husband of 61 years, son Dennis (Janice), daughter Sandra (Bob), son Gordon (Lara), and daughter Martha Ann, sister Melda, sister-in-law Fern Trudel, nine grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, many cousins, nephews and nieces, and a host of friends.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Oscar and Ubelda Trudel, brothers Louis and Leo, sisters Trudie, Lillian, and Paulette.
A Celebration of Denise’s Life on Sunday, July 21, 2024 at 1:00pm at Kakut Lake Hall, east of Woking. If so desired, memorial donations to the David Thompson Bible Camp Kitchen Fund, box 2455, Fairview AB T0H 1L0 can be made and will be gratefully accepted.
