French mixed doubles championships: the title holders eliminated in the round of 16 in Saint-Flour

The French mixed doubles championships continue this Sunday in Saint-Flour. This Saturday, the first day was marked by the elimination of Nice’s Mickaël and Marine Bonetto, outgoing champions, in the round of 16.

“A very good organization, a dream environment, magnificent facilities and, the cherry on the cake, a French championship in the heart of the city”, these are the words with which, this Saturday morning, Michel Le Bot, the national president of the FFPJP, described the French mixed doubles championships taking place this weekend in the city of Sanflor.

Rain and storms are coming

It was a real shame that in the middle of the afternoon a storm and rain interrupted the competition, forcing the federation and organizers to stop the competition at the start of the round of 16.

There were many contenders for the title, including some Auvergne teams, with the spearhead of the women’s category being the Cournonnaise licensed in Arlanc, Angélique Colombet, associated with the formidable Damien Hureau.

On the other hand, from the start, Saturday morning, in the games of the square of honour, the Niçois Mickaël and Marine Bonetto, outgoing champions, were mishandled by the promising young 17-year-old from Isère Mickaël Baldino (13-11) and his partner Lydia Colliat before pulling herself together and taking the next steps.

Arpajon residents Marie-Ange and Benoit Robert, Belleriv residents Sophie Oliveira and Romain Regaldo, Arlanco residents Emma Picard and Steeven Chapeland, all made it through the group stages without any problems.

Same scenario for Corréziens Maëva Demortier and Jérôme Taravillo. It was in the round of 16 that the Arpajonnais lowered their flag, closely followed by Alexandra Bornes – Sébastien Da Cunha (Lot).

Since Saturday evening, Auvergne’s chances of final victory have rested on the shoulders of the pairs Angélique Colombet – Damien Hureau (Arlanc), Sophie Oliveira – Romain Regaldo (Bellerive-sur-Allier) and Emma Picard – Steeven Chapeland (Arlanc).

The opening was offered by the surprise elimination of Marine and Mickaël Bonetto in the last 16 against a very solid team from Hautes-Pyrénées, Tiphanie and Kévin Lellouche (4-13).
