Under the watchful eye of Jean Garaialde, Nicolas Joakimides and Bertrand Cornut won the third edition of the Arkea Omnium Senior of the Basque Coast in Arcangues (64).

N.C.

The strong thunderstorms of the night from Friday to Saturday did not affect a Golf of Arcangues manicure. And the few rains during the first day of the weekend did not prevent Nicolas Joakimides et Bertrand Cornut to play very well.

Starting with a one-shot deficit on the lead after the first round in Greensome, the two young seniors (they were participating in the tournament for the first time) returned an excellent 67 (-5) in four balls during the second and final round with notably four birdies on the first eight holes. We are delighted and very proud to have won as a team, rejoiced Bertrand Cornut. We stayed together and talked very well. During the Greensome, Nicolas played extremely well, we took his score almost all the time. For the four-ball it was the opposite, I putted very well, I almost made our score by myself. The conditions helped us a little because we weren’t hitting very hard and that reduced the gap. The atmosphere was really extraordinary, the organization took very good care of us. »

Before Jean Garaialde

The teacher at Porcelaine Golf Course (87) was also very moved to win in front of Jean Garaialdepresent on the last holes and at the prize-giving. I knew him young when I arrived at the Golf de Chantaco at 12 years old, he still played very well. He came to see us and he always had this phrase: “so young people get training”. There was a little surge of acidity that came when it came from the 16th, it was very special for me. »

The two teachers, who left with a check for €10,000 to share, finished one length ahead Stéphane Lahary et Benjamin Nicolay. The two men almost made the perfect shot with their excellent 65 (-7) this Saturday with three birdies on the last three holes. This is also the score signed by Jean-François Remesy (titled last year) and Mark Farry in the second round. The two winners on the European Tour pay the first day played over par (73, +1). The pair shares third place notably with the teams of Jean Van De Velde, associated to Laurent Lassalleand of Patrice Barquezpartner of the general director of the FFgolf and recent senior French champion Christophe Muniesa.
