(Stéphane Martin, June 27, 2024) – The Charbone company announced Tuesday, in a press release, that it is about to begin construction of phase 1 of its green hydrogen plant in Sorel-Tracy.

The listed company confirms that it has signed a supply contract for a complete containerized electrolyser system ready for shipment to the future plant site. The system is expected to take 4-6 weeks to install and commission to be in production.

“The Sorel-Tracy green hydrogen project will serve as the Company’s flagship facility, giving Charbone a first-mover advantage with production commencing later this year with an initial capacity of approximately 400 kg. Following a phased development approach, the project will gradually increase hydrogen production. The facility will target a broad range of industrial users transitioning away from fossil fuel-based grey hydrogen and toward a cleaner alternative.”we can read in the press release.

“We have mastered the delivery of an electrolyser which will immediately increase operating margins is a turning point and a decisive step forward in our overall growth strategy. We have a strong strategic vision for the development and deployment of our green hydrogen network and surrounding ecosystems, and we look forward to soon introducing new and financeable decarbonization solutions to the North American market.”declared Charbone’s chief operating officer, Daniel Charrette.

In addition to its operations in Sorel-Tracy, the Company also plans to launch a second green hydrogen project in 2024 in the Detroit, Michigan area. In total, Charbone plans to deliver 16 green hydrogen production plants across North America by 2030 and is actively securing its supply chain of fully integrated electrolyzers up to 2.5 MW, 5.0 MW and 10.0 MW.

Let us recall that the City of Sorel-Tracy announced last February that it had reached an agreement with Charbone. The conclusion of this case followed legal proceedings initiated by the City.
